Gouldian Finch

Gouldian Finch are known from only northern Australia. While a popular aviary bird, the species is one of Australia's rarest finches, and is now listed as Endangered under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

In the wild they occur in tropical savannah woodlands where they nest in tree hollows and feed on the extensive cover of seeding grasses. Key threats to the Gouldian Finch are overgrazing, simplification of habitats and altered fire regimes

Gouldian Finches can be seen in the Kimberley exhibit at On The Perch.
